How Does Hearing Loss Affect Family and Friends?

Many people find they are being urged by family and friends to seek help with their hearing problems. This is because the family has to live with the problems associated with your hearing loss. Family and friends must constantly repeat themselves when words are missed. They must endure listening to the TV at volume levels louder than they would prefer. Unfortunately, most hearing impaired people do not realize the stress and pressure hearing loss creates for themselves and others. Fortunately, Hearing Aid & Speech systems can help improve your hearing so you will not constantly miss words like, “I love you” from your family and friends.

What Are The Types of Hearing Loss?

There are actually several types of hearing loss. These are Conductive, Sensorineural, Mixed loss, Central Hearing loss, and a Non-Organic Loss.

Conductive

According to the International Institute for Hearing Instruments Studies, a conductive loss involves a breakdown or obstruction of some part of the external or middle ear. The physical vibrations of sound are no longer transmitted or conducted through air, bone or tissue because of the obstruction. Most of these problems are medically correctable. If we detect this type of loss you will be referred to a physician that specializes in these problems.

Sensorineural

This is a hearing loss that is the result of damage to the inner ear. This is a very common problem and is many times treatable with an aid.

Mixed Hearing Loss

A mixed loss is a combination of more than one type of loss, usually conductive and sensorineural.

Central Hearing Loss

This is the inability of the brain to process, recognize or understand sounds or speech accurately.

Non-Organic Hearing Loss

The loss in this case is the result of some sort of psychological cause. There is nothing physically wrong with a person’s hearing mechanism.

Take our questionnaire to help determine if you have a hearing loss.
